Essa Riesling is a bone-dry white wine from South Africa's Cape South Coast, grown on the cool-climate Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge near Hermanus. Essa Wine Co., founded by winemaker Josh Rynderman, farms these vineyards dry, letting the maritime climate concentrate flavor naturally rather than through heavy intervention. The result shows classic Riesling character: petrol-tinged aromatics, grapefruit and honeysuckle on the nose, and a long, saline, mineral-driven finish with racy acidity reminiscent of German Mosel-Saar-Ruwer styles. Pour it chilled alongside grilled fish, herbed salads, or lightly spiced vegetarian dishes.
