El Mandatario is an extra añejo tequila from Encarnación de Díaz, Jalisco, made by Compañía Tequilera de Arandas, one of the region's larger producers even though the label rarely turns up outside specialty shops. It's 100% blue agave, rested at least three years in oak — long enough to pick up real color and depth: caramel, vanilla, and a soft wood finish carry a naturally sweet, smooth pour. Skip the mixers. Pour it neat, or over one big rock, and let the barrel time speak for itself.
