If you love a golden Barbados rum with real depth, Cockspur Old Gold Special Reserve is a lovely one to get to know. Made at the West Indies Rum Distillery, it blends light-bodied column rum with a touch of fuller pot-still rum, then rests in ex-bourbon oak barrels for up to five years. Expect vanilla, honey and allspice giving way to maple, toasted coconut and coffee. Silky and gently sweet at 43% ABV, perfect neat or in a rum old fashioned.
Tasting notes
Nose: Aromas of orange zest, dark chocolate, prunes and sandalwood.
Palate: Flavors of coffee, raisins, caramel, vanilla and allspice
Finish: Dry, with notes of cherry wood and pepper.
