If you've never met a whisky with a genuinely waxy texture, this is your introduction. Clynelish sits on the coast at Brora in the northern Highlands, and its 14-year-old flagship is bottled at 46% ABV. Expect scented-candle wax and dried flowers on the nose, a creamy maritime palate, and honeyed citrus rolling into a lightly salty, gently bitter finish. Lighter-bodied and fragrant, it makes a lovely aperitif pour, neat or with a few drops of water to open it up.
Tasting notes
Nose: Zesty, mandarin, tangerine. Smoky.
Palate: Quite light, great clarity. Orange, soft acidity. Dry oak. Mixed fruits, vanilla, leather.
Finish: Quite long, bitter sweetness developing, spicy oak.
