Haut Armagnac is Gascony's most confidential appellation, and Chateau Arton grows nearly all of it -- the Montal family has farmed this Lectoure estate since 1979 on the belief that armagnac is grown, not made. La Reserve blends estate-grown Ugni Blanc and Colombard brandies aged several years, opening with chamomile and candied kumquat before settling into citrus and floral notes. In 2017 it became the first armagnac ever awarded France's Prix d'Excellence. Pour it slow and neat alongside dark chocolate or a citrus tart.
