Napa's Duckhorn went looking for Washington's boldest Cabernet and landed on Red Mountain, a tiny, sun-drenched AVA of southwest-facing slopes and big day-to-night temperature swings. Named for the Canvasback duck of the Pacific Flyway, the 2021 blends 89% Cabernet with a splash of Merlot and Malbec, then rests 20 months in French oak. Expect cherry pie, plum and sagebrush over silky tannins, with cocoa and tobacco leaf on a long finish. Give it a decant and pour alongside grilled ribeye.
