Bruichladdich Islay Barley Provenance Series 2013 is an unpeated single malt Scotch whisky from Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay, Scotland, built around the distillery's terroir philosophy. The barley is grown exclusively on farms within roughly eleven miles of the distillery, then harvested, distilled, and matured entirely on Islay for full farm-to-glass traceability. Aging in a mix of first-fill bourbon casks, sherry butts, and second-fill wine casks yields a cereal-forward dram with malty digestive-biscuit sweetness, ripe apricot and peach, and a whisper of maritime salinity on the finish. Pour it neat to follow how the barley's origin shapes every sip.
Tasting notes
Nose: Barley sugar, light honey and vanilla. Medley of apples, peaches, and pears. Lemon zest. Slight lactic-like notes, similar to a fresh mozzarella. Hint of ozone/salinity.
Palate: Lemon zest, honey and vanilla swirl together upon first sip. Cinnamon and a touch of plain yoghurt follow. Peach, lemon oil, and a honey/light caramel taste trails on the moderate length finish.
