Blanton's Red is the Japanese-market release American bourbon hunters trade stories about. Bottled for Japan and imported by Takara Shuzo, it keeps everything that made the original famous — the faceted bottle, the racehorse stopper, single barrel bottling from Buffalo Trace's Warehouse H in Frankfort, Kentucky — and adds details you won't find on the standard US release: barrel information inked in red, a katakana neck label, and gift-ready packaging. It pours at 93 proof (46.5% ABV), the same strength as the classic Original, from a barrel selection reserved for Japan.
In the glass it runs a shade darker and drier than the US bottling: roasted caramel, honey, and vanilla up front, then fennel, licorice, dried cherry, clove, and roasted oak.
