Bladnoch is Scotland's southernmost distillery, tucked in the Lowlands, and its Pure Scot Virgin Oak (VO) is where things get interesting: minimum-eight-year Bladnoch single malt blended with aged malts pulled from Islay, the Highlands, and Speyside, then finished in virgin American oak. That finishing step is what gives it barley sugar and honey sweetness up front, with nutmeg, orange zest, and a whisper of campfire smoke trailing behind. Bottled at 43% ABV. Pour it neat to catch the smoke, or build a whisky sour and let the honey carry through.

Tasting notes

COLOUR: Copper gold

NOSE: Sweet oak, barley sugar, nutmeg, a hint of citrus and green apple, and a whiff of sweet smoke

PALATE: An abundance of honey and barley sugar, fresh, zesty with spicy gingerbread and orange, fruity notes. Background of campfire smoke

FINISH: Lovely texture, soft smooth and lightly spicy, with long lasting, honeyed, refreshing character
