Here's a rye with a soundtrack. Blackened is the whiskey born from Metallica, and every batch is matured to low-frequency sound waves that pulse the liquid against the oak. For this Willett collaboration, master blenders Rob Dietrich and Drew Kulsveen hand-picked low- and high-rye barrels, aged them around 6.5 years, then finished up to 14 weeks in Madeira casks. The result runs bold at 109.6 proof: peppery rye spice, dark plum, fig, and sweet tobacco. Pour it neat, let it open, and listen.
