The mash bill starts with traditional Kentucky rye grain, then Canadian rye from our award-winning Alberta distillery is layered in. Finally, the whiskey is finished with a touch of California Port. Kentucky rye gives Basil Hayden Dark Rye a firm base of spice, rich oak, dried fruit and molasses, while Canadian rye accentuates the depth of the dried fruit adding a more substantial and viscous mouthfeel. The California Port adds complementary notes of juicy, ripe fruit and gives the bourbon its trademark ruby hue. The subtle nuances from each part of the mash bill come together flawlessly, resulting in a rye bourbon that takes you far beyond the expected.
