Basil Hayden Kentucky Straight Bourbon traces back to 1992, when Booker Noe crafted it as the most approachable pour in Jim Beam's Small Batch lineup. Made from a high-rye mash bill at the James B. Beam Distilling Co. in Clermont, Kentucky, it's bottled at a easy-sipping 80 proof and pours a warm golden brown. Charred oak and vanilla-caramel notes lead in, brown sugar and a whisper of black pepper carry the palate, and dried fruit lingers into the finish. Pour it neat to open a bourbon night, or build it into a spiced Old Fashioned.
