Armagnac often gets overshadowed by its cousin Cognac, but this Gascony brandy makes a strong case of its own. De Montal's VS is distilled from Baco and Ugni Blanc grapes grown across the rolling hills of Gers, then rested in oak for two to three years, well past the one-year minimum. That patience shows: expect floral aromas, cooked fruit and vanilla, with a warm, softly oaky finish that leans almost licorice. Pour it neat, over ice, or into a cocktail.
