Here's a Washington red with an unexpected backstory: it comes from the Aquilini family (yes, the Vancouver Canucks owners), who planted vines on Red Mountain, one of the state's smallest and warmest AVAs. The Family Blend leans on Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Petit Verdot, hand-picked and aged 26 months in French oak, with consulting from Bordeaux-born winemaker Philippe Melka. Expect cherry, raspberry, sweet oak spice, and graphite over dusty, silky tannins. Decant and pour alongside a peppercorn-crusted steak.
