1848 Winery - 5th Generation Cabernet Franc Dry Red Wine
1848 5th Generation Cabernet Franc 2013 is made at the 1848 Winery founded in 2006 to honor the beginning of modern winemaking in Israel by its parent Zion Winery in 1848. Tzvika Shor is the winemaker dedicated to producing higher end wines using grapes from the Kohav HaShahar vineyard on the eastern slopes of the Jerusalem Mountains at an altitude of 600 meters. Cabernet Franc is a lesser known French grape which existed before Cabernet Sauvignon. It is gentler than its more famous cousin and was originally used as a minor ingredient in Bordeaux blends. It is a relative newcomer to Israel where it is used alone. It was aged in oak for 14 months and has a dark crimson color with black pepper, tobacco, licorice, walnuts and chocolate notes and a full velvety body with a long spicy finish. This wine is best pair with grilled salmon or BBQ beef steaks.
The wine is colored deep purple color. Aromas of strawberries, raspberries, with a hint of green pepper and Mediterranean herbs. Full bodied, rich with a long fruity, well balanced finish. Aged for 14 months in barrels.
