The Original 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Made Only in Scotland — By Law, By Tradition, By Terroir
Scotch must be distilled and aged in Scotland for at least three years in oak barrels. Within those rules, the diversity is enormous — peat-smoked Islay malts taste nothing like the floral Highlands, which taste nothing like rich Speyside drams. Single malts come from one distillery using only malted barley; blends combine malt and grain whiskies into the world's most-poured style.
Scotland's Five Whisky Regions
Islay
Peated, smoky, maritime. Lagavulin, Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Bowmore. The west coast island whose whisky carries seaweed, brine, and bonfire.
Speyside
Sherry-cask, honeyed, fruit-forward. Glenfiddich, Macallan, Glenlivet, Balvenie. Scotland's largest whisky region — and most-loved style.
Highland
Floral, heather, diverse. Glenmorangie, Dalmore, Highland Park, Oban. The biggest region delivers the widest range of styles.
Lowland
Light, grassy, often triple-distilled. Auchentoshan, Glenkinchie, Bladnoch. The gentle, approachable end of the Scotch spectrum.
Campbeltown
Briny, funky, coastal. Springbank, Glen Scotia, Hazelburn. The smallest region, with the most singular character.
Blended Scotch
Johnnie Walker, Chivas, Dewar's, Compass Box. Master blends combining malts and grains — the world's most-poured Scotch style.
Scotch FAQ
What's the difference between single malt and blended scotch?
Single malt comes from one distillery using 100% malted barley. Blended scotch combines malt and grain whiskies from multiple distilleries for a balanced, consistent profile. Single malts showcase terroir; blends showcase the blender's art. Both can be exceptional.
What are the scotch whisky regions?
Scotland has five main regions: Speyside (fruity, elegant — Glenfiddich, Macallan), Highland (diverse, often honeyed), Islay (heavily peated, smoky — Laphroaig, Ardbeg), Lowland (light, grassy), and Campbeltown (briny, complex). Each region produces distinct character.
Why is some scotch smoky?
The smoky flavor comes from peat — decomposed vegetation burned to dry malted barley during production. Islay distilleries are famous for heavily peated scotch. Not all scotch is smoky; Speyside and Highland expressions are often unpeated with fruity or floral notes.
What does “cask strength” mean?
Cask strength (or barrel proof) scotch is bottled directly from the barrel without dilution, typically 55–65% ABV. It delivers more intense flavor and allows you to add water to your preferred strength. Standard scotch is diluted to 40–46% ABV before bottling.
Does TIPXY ship scotch to my state?
TIPXY ships to most U.S. states through licensed retailers. Orders over $149 qualify for free shipping; orders between $100–$149 ship for $8.99.
