Espolon - Extra Anejo Tequila
Crafted by the legendary Master Distiller Cirilo Oropeza, this Extra Añejo is the ultimate expression of the Los Altos (Highlands) terroir. After distilling the 100% Blue Weber agave in small batches, the spirit is tucked away in American Oak barrels for at least 36 months. But there is a twist: it is finished in charred Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels, adding a layer of deep, smoky sweetness that you won’t find in other tequilas.
The "San Nicolas" name on the bottle is a badge of honor. It signifies a distillery that refuses to cut corners, using high-pressure autoclaves for a cleaner agave cook and a longer-than-average fermentation process that allows the natural flavors of the Highlands to fully develop before the spirit ever hits the barrel.
The bottle remains a work of art, featuring the iconic skeletal rooster, Cirilo, set against a backdrop of Mexican history. For this 3-year release, the packaging is elevated to reflect its premium status, making it a standout gift or a centerpiece for a dedicated tequila shelf.
If you have a "bourbon-only" friend, this is the bottle that will convert them to tequila. The 3-year aging process and the Wild Turkey finish provide that familiar caramel and oak profile, but with the vibrant, spicy kick that only premium agave can deliver.
Appearance: A rich, glowing mahogany with deep amber legs.
Nose: A powerful opening of roasted agave and toasted oak, followed by complex notes of salted caramel, dried pineapple, and a hint of white pepper.
Palate: Luxuriously oily and full-bodied. The bourbon barrel finish is evident here, delivering flavors of butterscotch, vanilla bean, and a touch of maple syrup, all pinned down by a sophisticated herbal agave backbone.
Finish: incredibly long and warming. It leaves a lingering trail of dark chocolate, sandalwood, and a faint wisp of barrel smoke.
