Before industrial distillation, America’s original farmers would malt a small portion of their grain to start fermentation, the essential step that turns water and rye into glorious whiskey. As a nod to the farmers, Double Malt Rye is crafted from a mash bill of Rye and Malted Barley. History aside, these grains unite in a show-stopping Rye Whiskey that stretches far and wide across the flavor spectrum. Its base of 91% Rye delivers bold, peppery spice, while 9% Malted Barley adds soft, floral and earthy character.To take the expansive palate of WhistlePig Double Double Rye even further, this year's edition undergoes a unique double barrel aging process in American Oak and Pedro Ximenez (PX) Sherry Casks, adding new layers of complexity with each barrel. The result is a masterstroke—a prize pig of a whiskey with warm, sweet notes and a never-ending finish.
Tasting notes
Nose: Sweet and aromatic, with toasted almonds, caramel and subtle, smoked maple.
Palate: A rush of warmth, melting into barely sweet, grassy, spice with a lingering soft honey note.
Finish: Lengthy and lingering dried fruit.
