Whip Saw Rye comes from Splinter Group Spirits, a Napa Valley project pairing winemakers Steve Matthiasson and Bob Cabral with a high-rye mash bill of 77% rye, 21% corn, and 2% malted barley. Whiskeys aged up to seven years are finished in French oak barrels that previously held their still wines, using artesian water drawn from beneath Sonoma Valley's Moon Mountain vineyards. Expect vanilla and baking spice up front with a smooth, grapey depth from the wine-cask finish. Bottled at 90 proof, it's built for a neat pour or a spice-forward rye Old Fashioned.
