Overview

Ten To One rethinks what Caribbean rum can be: this dark blend layers 8-year-old Barbadian, Dominican, and Trinidadian column-still rums with a Jamaican pot-still selection, all aged in ex-bourbon oak. Expect baking spice, vanilla, and roasted nuts up front, with banana bread, cedar, and a bright citrus lift keeping things lively rather than syrupy. Founded by Trinidad-born Marc Farrell to move rum past pirate clichés, it's built for a proper Old Fashioned or Manhattan, though it holds its own poured neat over ice.
Tasting notes

VISUAL

Honey-amber color, moderate viscosity, with golden yellow hues.

NOSE

Driven by cooked fruit character, and baking spices. Esters are quite present, banana peel, and baked yellow apple. Nut loaf, oatmeal cookie, roasted nuts and toffee. Also some fresh fruit oil aromas (orange and lemon). A bit vegetal as well, some wet grass.

STRUCTURE

On the palate, much more savory in character versus driven by esters. Tobacco, cedar, mulch, and vanilla. Baked apples and banana bread. Worn leather flavors. Tangy and nutty. Acidity is moderate plus, refreshing and zippy. Body is moderate plus, very textural and oily. Sweet orchard fruit flavors but not cloyingly sweet, finishes dry and clean.
