Named for 1962, the year Cantine San Marzano was founded, this Puglian Primitivo di Manduria Riserva is built from slightly overripe grapes for real depth. After malolactic fermentation in steel, it rests 18 months in French and American oak. Expect an intense ruby color, aromas of prune and cherry jam layered with tobacco and a touch of spice, then a full, soft palate closing on cocoa, coffee and vanilla. Pour it around 18°C alongside red meats or game.
Tasting notes
A deep and complex nose with hints of prunes, cherry jam, spice and tobacco. Full bodied with fine tannins and notes of cocoa, coffee and vanilla on the long and savoury finish.
