Down in Pembroke, Kentucky, husband-and-wife team Paul and Merry Beth Tomaszewski built MB Roland in 2009 as a true grain-to-glass distillery, working local food-grade white corn into a straight bourbon that skips dilution and chill-filtering entirely. Each batch blends five to ten barrels, hand-labeled and numbered, then bottled undiluted at barrel proof — batches land anywhere from about 102 to 115 proof — for a full-bodied, pre-Prohibition-style pour. Try it neat or over one big ice cube to watch it open up.
Tasting notes
Aromas of milk chocolate, sweet malt, honeycomb, wild brambles, lemon curd and peppery oak fill the nose, complemented by notes of buttery popcorn, warm toast, milk chocolate, brown sugar, fried banana, caramel and oak spice throughout the palate.
