Heaven's Door HWY 61 is a blended straight whiskey from Heaven's Door, the Kentucky-based American whiskey brand co-founded with Bob Dylan. This limited custom blend combines Heaven's Door's Tennessee straight bourbon with its Straight Rye Whiskey (finished in toasted oak cigar barrels air-dried in France) at roughly 69% bourbon to 31% rye. Expect an opening of caramel, toasted brown sugar, and baking spice, with a palate of cinnamon, peppercorn, vanilla, and light rye spice leading into a warm, oak-driven finish. Pour it neat to follow the transition from sweet grain to spice, or over a single large cube.
Tasting notes
Caramel, pepper and a medicinal cherry are all in the forefront of the nose. Raisin and a port wine. Some spice is present and makes the nose sting a bit. Palate is really surprising explosion of citrus and herbal fruit medley.
