Overview

Glengoyne makes its single malt without peat, letting the barley speak for itself, and the 18 Year is where that patience really shows. Eighteen years in a mix of ex-bourbon and first-fill Oloroso sherry casks builds layers of orange marmalade, dried figs, and marzipan over honey, butterscotch, and a wisp of dark chocolate and toasted nuts. Bottled at 43%, it's an unhurried Highland sipper for a quiet evening: neat, or with a single drop of water to open it up.

Tasting notes

Nose: Awash with red apple and ripe melon. Heavenly and well rounded, it drifts into hot porridge topped with brown sugar.

Palate: Full bodied, round and rich. At first macerated fruits, marzipan and walnuts; then warm spices, dry cocoa and lingering Seville marmalade.

Finish: Long, warm and dry.
