In December 2015, MGP filled a dozen barrels from an undisclosed cooperage with 95/5 rye whiskey to test their barrels. By 2019, so much whiskey had leaked out, the test was ended. Thankfully, the remaining whiskey was vatted and rebarreled into five Zac Cooperage #4 Char barrels.We secured these Double Oaked Rye barrels when they turned 8.5-years-old, and bottled them at cask strength (104 proof). The total yield was only 1050 bottles. These five barrels are all that exist, making this release truly one-of-a-kind.
Tasting notes
Nose: Sweet almonds, peppercorn, anise, pine
Palate: Orange rind, golden honey, green apple, caramel custard
Finish: Fresh herbs, mint, subtle pepper, oily richness
