Château La Tonnelle is a Haut-Médoc red Bordeaux from Domaines Fabre, the same Fabre family that has farmed vineyards in the appellation since 1964. The wine comes from vines on the elevated Vertheuil plateau, planted in Pyrenean gravel soil bordering Saint-Estèphe, and leans on Cabernet Sauvignon with a small measure of Petit Verdot for structure. Even in its youth, La Tonnelle shows a round, supple character with ripe fruit and firm tannic backbone rather than austerity. Pour it alongside grilled meats, where its structure and fruit have room to unfold.
