Cascina Baricchi is a small, family-run estate in Neviglie, just outside Barbaresco, where Natale Simonetta trained under noted producer Bruno Giacosa before returning home to make wine. Their Barbera d'Alba comes from a single hand-harvested parcel planted in 1992, fermented in stainless steel with a slow, ten-day maceration, then aged 18 to 24 months in oak. Expect deep ruby color, fresh plum and raspberry, a whisper of herbs and spice. Pour it with risotto and osso buco, or cotechino and lentils.
