Overview

While it’s not often seen here in the UK, Cardhu is the biggest selling single malt whisky in Spain, with its soft, sweet character the perfect match for the warm climate. A much-loved distillery, it makes easygoing, charming Speyside whiskies, and its 12 Year Old is a perfect introduction to the style. With clean, crisp oak and sweet malt evoking flavours of honeyed flapjacks and homemade caramel squares, this is one for the sweet-toothed.
Tasting notes

Light gold in color, this 12 year old single malt has a floral nose with nice cherry and nectarine notes. These fruity floral notes are backed up with an undertone of light brown sugar, chocolate and earthy clay. The entry is very smooth and elegant and it immediately opens with a burst of flavor that includes cinnamon, black cherry, maple and the slightest amount of smoky peat funk. The Cardhu finishes up nicely as it holds on to those smoky, peaty notes. There’s some nice complexity here with light and sweet top notes and more savory mid and undertones.

Connosr, Scotchology, and Whisky of the Week reviewers find Cardhu 12 a gentle, well-balanced Speyside with apple, pear, honey, and a touch of smoke. Some call it one-dimensional or slightly off-balance, but most praise the smoothness and $40 value for a 12yr single malt.
