Thomas S. Moore built his Bardstown distillery in 1889—the same grounds now known as Barton 1792—and this bottling carries his name into an extra round of aging. The high-rye bourbon spends five to six years in new charred oak, then rests another one to four in used oloroso sherry casks, picking up fig, toasted nuts, and a whisper of tobacco and cedar. Bottled at 98.7 proof, it finishes long and warmly spiced. Pour it neat and let the sherry sweetness unfold.
Tasting notes
An aroma explosion of sweet, rich fruit and toasted nuts, followed by figs, hints of spicy tobacco and subtle cedar. The palate is sweet with a soft, round initial impression followed by a myriad of aged fruits and nuts. The finish is balanced and sweet with notes of spicy oak.
