Bottled to mark the Year of the Rabbit on the Japanese zodiac calendar, this small-batch whisky is blended from 3-to-8-year stock aged in Mizunara oak in Yamanashi Prefecture, in the shadow of Mt. Fuji. Left unchilled and unfiltered, it carries toasted honeycomb and licorice on the nose, giving way to barley-oak sweetness, anise, vanilla, and hazelnut on the palate, with a soft, toffee-tinged finish. Pour it neat to celebrate Lunar New Year, or set the artfully labeled bottle out as a conversation-starting gift.
Tasting notes
Outstanding richness and sheen to the enormous barley-oak sweetness; again there is big bourbon influences with all the associated liquorice and molasses sugar. The barley adds an extra dimension.
