Overview

More Info

Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve is a bold, confident Scotch whisky as luxurious and indulgent as its name suggests. A multi-layered blend, it offers a smooth balance of sweet fruits and creaminess that evolves into deeper honeyed tones before finishing in lingering waves of wood, fruit, and light, sweet West-coast smoke. Best enjoyed with soda, this vibrant blend is perfect for celebration, landmark moments, or any spirited occasion shared with friends and family.<

Tasting notes

Nose: Honey and heather with thick caramel notes and a subtle nutmeg spice. Dried meadow flowers and a hint of fresh banana.

Palate: Smooth and succulent with a honeyed sweetness that's typical of Johnnie Walker. There's more to this though, the floral elements are quite prominent and there's a spiced sweet vanilla note too.

Finish: Long, sweet and toffee-like.

Tipxy AI Overview

What people across the internet are saying
★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ 3/5 AI Rating

Reviewers on Wine Enthusiast and The Whiskey Wash split on Gold Label Reserve: honey, melon, vanilla toffee and a touch of seaweed from a Clynelish-led blend, but many call it too soft, indistinct and approachable to a fault. Pleasant and inoffensive rather than a standout.

Excellent, Silky, and Simple to Drink

"My minimum JW is a gold JW. Nonetheless, quite drinkable and smooth. By no means a complicated scotch, but it is smooth and convenient to sip neat. Would work quite perfectly as a mixer, I'm sure. has a pleasant, smooth flavor. Nothing compares to red or black. It and Chivas 18 will alternate for me at this pricing point. It's simple for everyone because there isn't much smoke or peat. Strongly advised."

Tasty and throat-soothing

"My favorite among the group when I want a variation from Johnnie Walker Black is this one. While gold has more honey, vanilla, and citrus aromas and is more of a softer touch for a hot summer day, black has stronger flavors. It reminds me more of a more expensive bottle of Glenfiddich 12, which is exactly how it tastes to me."

I used Tipxy for the first time for this transaction.

"I enjoyed using Tipxy for the first time to make this transaction. A simple to use app with a wide variety of alcohol. Although shipping was a bit pricey, the delivery arrived in excellent condition. After Diageo took over, Johnnie Walker has been lacking. I am grateful that I was able to experience the Gold (and the Blue) before the transition. Diageo, act better; the Johnny Walker name can still represent something wonderful."

Smooth! In my opinion (other than Blue, of course).

"First off, life is too short to drink cheap scotch, as I often tell my wife. I've tasted a few JW blends, all of which are good yet distinctive. It's incredibly smooth and simple to sip this Gold Label Reserve. But, there are others that you might like if you're looking for an outstanding blend with a little more "bite" or character. I thought to myself, "Yikes, take me back to my Gold Label Reserve!" Of course, like Snoopy said, "I am positive about everything that is a matter of opinion," after drinking this mix and then trying another excellent JW blend."

Good for blending; ok when consumed alone.

"You really couldn't do much worse than JW Gold if you're looking for a scotch that's fantastic for mixing and won't break the budget. While it's decent on its own and superior to most blends, it really shines when used as the base spirit in most cocktails. On a warm day, this is unbeatable with some ginger ale in a large glass overflowing with ice."

I adore the Gold one

"Gold was always my preferred color when Johnnie Walker only came in Red, Black, Green, Gold, and Blue (with outliers like Pinch and other really privileged varieties). However, I'm happy to discover that Gold Reserve is the same fantastic Gold Label I've always loved. With their expansion into Double Black (which I really like), Platinum, and a slew of Game of Thrones versions, it really makes the whole "discontinuing" and then "reserving" of labels seem completely like a marketing stunt by the company."

Krew (5/5)

Pleasant but not as good as the previous 18 Century blend

"It's fair to say that this one, which I recently purchased to compare to one of my now-discontinued 18-year-old gold labels, is a little rougher. It still has Clynelish as its base, but it is younger—roughly 12 to 14 years old. For those who just want a once in a while good drink, it's ok with ice or by itself. For those looking for a replacement or the old 18 year old, you might as well spend the extra money for platinum label, which is a good blend. On the nose, it has the same sweet vanilla and nuttiness but in a weaker way. Connosiurs will be yearning for, while newcomers will appreciate. Swing is a better blend than Gold Label Reserve if you want a better blend but won't break the bank. Newcomers will appreciate it. Connosiurs will be looking for something in more quality. Always the greatest option for whisky, total wine and more"

It's ok, but not worth the price.

"One of my favorite scotches is the 18-year-old Walker Gold Centenary mix. In Atlanta, I used to pick it up for $75–$80, and occasionally for as little as $50 in Chicago. It was completely worthwhile. This new gold label is a completely different species. It's actually not that horrible when it comes to scotches. Nevertheless, it's bad for $87. In terms of quality, I'd place the pricing closer to $40. Regrettably, I haven't discovered a suitable replacement for the old gold. The closest is probably Glenmorangie Sauterns, although it's still fairly different. I advise lovers of the past to try the Glenmorangie Sauterns. Stay clear from this new gold label unless it's coming from your pocketbook."

JA Gold Label is a top brand.

"Most excellent blended scotch whisky available. It is similar to bourbon and is less smokey than other scotches."

Kyree (5/5)

Excellent pricing for whiskey.

"Excellent pricing for whiskey. One of the smoothest whiskeys available; excellent either straight or mixed with water."
