Glen Breton - Battle Of The Glen 15 Year Old Canadian Single Malt Whisky
In 2000, shortly after Glenora Distillery released its first proudly labeled Glen Breton Rare, the Scotch Whisky Association launched a legal challenge, claiming that the use of the word "Glen" might mislead consumers into thinking it was Scotch. What followed was an international media storm — newspapers, magazines, online forums, and whisky blogs lit up with debate.
As the only Single Malt Whisky distillery in North America at the time, Glenora became a symbol of Canadian craft and cultural pride.
When Glenora ultimately triumphed in the summer of 2009, it marked more than just a legal victory — it was a defining moment in the history of Canadian whisky. To commemorate the battle, Glenora created a special bottling: Battle of the Glen. Its packaging proudly displays press clippings from around the world, capturing the story that put Glen Breton on the global stage.
Colour: A rare golden hue — like the first light of dawn glinting off the snow-covered lakes of Cape Breton’s Bras d’Or.
Nose: Delicate notes of freshly cut applewood and soft Highland honey.
Palate: Waves of rich malt arrive with strength and complexity, revealing layers of orchard fruit and warmth — bold but never overwhelming.
Finish: Smooth and lasting, with a subtle touch of peat. Wisps of hardwood smoke evoke memories of autumn leaves and cozy firesides.
Balance: A masterful harmony between the whisky’s lightness and the depth of its malt character — elegant, mysterious, and enduring.
