A time tested recipe from 1932 with 25 international spirits awards. Smoky and sweet with all the classic barrel notes including vanilla,carmel,cherry, and rye spice. Known as Al Capone's favorite recipe during prohibition. Made in 3 gallon batches and aged in 15 gallon Minnesota white oak barrels. There is nothing else in the world like this. Purpose grown Iowa rye grown in Wisconsin glacier soil. Hand cut in our proprietary stills. No chemicals or enzymes used. Most would say impossible. We say impossible for them. A true piece of American history.

A SPIRIT WITH A RICH LEGACY

Born on a small farm in Iowa during the Prohibition era of the 1920s, Sextro Rye was originally distilled by a local grandmother and clandestine bootlegger, Lorine Sextro. This is her recipe for a truly legendary 100% rye grain spirit, using grain grown locally in Carroll County Iowa.

THE METHOD

Just as you would find in Sextro's little venture in 1931 Iowa, our Black Label Rye is first distilled in small batches, in custom-built stills with a capacity of no more than 26 gallons. After that, we leave our sweet rye to age for about 18 months in 15-gallon barrels. The result? Our most acceptable Black Label Rye, an authentic Prohibition era Rye whiskey!
